Amazon will cut an additional 9,000 jobs, on top of the 18,000 announced in January, mostly in IT services, human resources, advertising and Twitch. CEO Andy Jassy justified the decision on the need to cut costs and headcount due to economic uncertainty and declining visibility. Amazon had been hiring massively in recent years, but the end of lockdowns and the economic downturn slowed the company’s growth. The U.S. Federal Reserve has also raised interest rates, which has impacted funding for tech companies.
